Javelina

The baby javelina follows its mother through the dense scrub of Arizona, until weaned at 6 weeks.  Javelina as a newborn weighs about 1 pound and by 10 months of age they reach adulthood.  January through March is breeding season for the javelina with a 145 day gestattion period.  Birth occurs mainly in June, July and August when majority of the rain falls for Arizona.  Average lifespan reaches 7-8 years i the wild.
