Intracoastal Waterway, North Carolina
The beauty along the Intracoastal Waterway is seen here looking from Highway 70 between Beaufort and Morehead City, North Carolina. The Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, conceived by the US Secretary of the treasury, Albert Gallatin in 1808 and reported to then President Thomas Jefferson, was not completed until the 1930s.

Many U.S. Soldiers stayed in or returned to Albuquerque after being stationed here in the 1850s. Major Melchior Werner built the aptly christened Centennial Hotel in 1876. The building also contained the Post Office.
